Build a foundation
Introduction to Trauma Informed Care and ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) training
This 2-hour orientation looks at how traumatic experiences early in life continue to influence life choices as adults and how human service workers can successfully engage with clients to promote resilience and opportunity.
The Other Side of First Aid workshop (Psychological First Aid)
This 90-minute starter course focuses on how to successfully reduce the initial stress and negative impacts following a critical incident. Through early intervention and education regarding coping mechanisms, people who have experienced a critical incident have shown reduced short- and long-term effects, including a reduction in post-traumatic stress symptoms. Emergency Managers & Safety Teams, this course is a must-have to pair with your organization's CPR, Medical First Aid, and other concrete skills requirements!
Introduction to Compassion Fatigue training
Do staff report feeling exhausted or "burned out" at work? This 2-hour primer helps people identify the sources of compassion fatigue, how it can impact job performance and personal lives, and initial steps that can be taken to mitigate those effects. Attendees learn how to make true change in their lives to reduce the effects of negative stress and build resilience to create satisfaction in their personal and professional lives.
Compassion Fatigue and Self-Care workshop
Our 4-hour interactive workshop is a more robust and interactive version of the Compassion Fatigue training. It is designed to help attendees explore the sources of their compassion fatigue in greater depth, while providing discussion and activities that can transform their lives at home and in the workplace. Attendees create an individualized Resilience Plan and are linked to resources that enable them to continue strengthening their lives after the workshop.
Grief and Loss
QPR - Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention
This 90-minute program teaches "gatekeepers" - people strategically positioned to identify and refer people in crisis - how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond effectively. Rays of Hope employs a nationally-recognized model to provide HOPE for people who feel overwhelmed by their circumstances.
Support Group Facilitation
Partner with Rays of Hope to host a support group in your community. Community members who have experienced the death of a loved one, major illness, or any other loss may feel isolated, alone, and powerless. This 8-week group provides a place for them to receive education and support to navigate their emotional reactions and find a path to reconnect with the world around them.
Working with children and youth
Introduction to a Trauma-informed Classroom
Our 90-minute course is designed specifically for educators in the K-12 system. Rays of Hope facilitators will prepare participants to:
Recognize how trauma responses may be triggering negative behaviors; identify insecure attachment behaviors; provide an environment to meet a wide variety of relational and sensory needs; and employ ecological and physiological strategies designed to meet the needs of students in the classroom.
In addition, participants will learn to recognize compassion fatigue triggers and early warning signs for staff; articulate and teach others the potential effects of traumatic stress upon systems, e.g., relationships, family, and workplace; and identify and utilize resources and plans for resiliency and prevention for self and ability to facilitate this plan with others.
Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) workshop
If you work with children or youth with a history of trauma, TBRI is a "must-have" for your staff! Attendees receive 18 hours of in-depth exploration of attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention, designed by the Karyn Purvis Institute for Children at Texas Christian University to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. This workshop can be engaged as a 3-day block, monthly full-day meetings, or in shorter weekly sessions.
Support for Organizational Change
Consultation and Mentoring Services
In addition to training, Rays of HOPE staff are available to work with leadership of your organization regarding how to successfully introduce trauma-informed principles into your business practices, from front line staff retention to organizational policies, and all levels in between.
